Edward Everett Schoolyard Clean-ups -
We're wondering if some folks would be willing to donate some time in the next few weeks raking leaves at the Everett, so that we don't smother our newly planted grass. Leaves collected will be going to Saturday leaf pickup to make compost for community gardens. No reservations are required, just bring a rake. Contact Ms. Flannery at the school office and she will provide paper yardwaste bags. Thanks so much !!! For additional info call Alicia @ 617-282-6722

City-Wide Dialogues on Boston's Ethnic & Racial Diversity.
HAVE YOU EVER REALLY TALKED ABOUT IT?
- Local groups are planning a proactive city-wide program of multi-session community dialogues. The goal is for 1,000 Bostonians to take part in CITY-WIDE DIALOGUES between now and June 2004.

WHY DO IT? - Interracial acceptance and inclusion is still a key issue in the U.S. as a whole and here in Boston. Lack of comfort and familiarity with other groups holds us back as a society. It inhibits the full flourishing of creativity in our communities and workplaces. Better racial and ethnic relations begin with engaging each other on a personal, human level to achieve understanding. Structured face-to-face dialogue is a proven way to do that. Each Boston neighborhood will hold its own local Dialogue Group with 15-20 ethnically and racially diverse participants and two group facilitators. Each group will meet four times.

PURPOSE OF CITY-WIDE DIALOGUES
• A proactive effort to engage every Boston neighborhood; the entire city can have a conversation on a topic that involves the quality of city life for all.
• Give people a chance - in some cases for the first time -- to really understand where people from other ethnic and racial groups are "coming from."
• Facilitate relationships that enable neighbors to work together on community projects.
• Build upon the existing strengths of Boston's diversity.
• Deal with the sometimes-taboo subjects of race and ethnicity proactively, healing old divisions through the unifying power of open communication.
• Showcase Boston's spirit at the 2004 Democratic National Convention when the media spotlight will be focused on our city. CITY-WIDE DIALOGUES will set an example for other major American cities. Note, however, that CITY-WIDE DIALOGUES is a non-partisan initiative.

INTERESTED? If you would like to participate in the City-Wide Dialogues, please contact Nancy Khalil at 617-442-4519, ext. 226 or email nkhalil@ulem.com

Currently participating groups include the Urban League of Eastern Mass., United Way of Mass.
