Fiber Optic Cable Installation
The following is a response from Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc  regarding the ongoing fiber optic cable installation along Morrissey Blvd:

The project route for the "Quincy to So Boston Backbone" starts at  the Neponset River Bridge and runs all the way down Morrissey Blvd to Old  Colony Ave, continues on Old Colony Ave to D St then down D St to W 4th St.  As of Jan 19, D St is done. Old Colony Ave is done between D St and Preble  St. Morrissey Blvd is done between the Neponset River Bridge and the Boston  Globe Building. All that remains for street type construction is the run  between the Globe Building and Preble St. The bore under Malibu Bay will  commence in February and will take only a few weeks with no traffic or  neighborhood impacts. As you can see, we are about 80% done. The loop to the Adams St/Fields Corner Verizon Central Office is still in design. I have asked Councilor Feeney to bring various concerned neighborhood groups together for a combined community meeting where we could  present our thoughts and seek your input. This should take place in early  February as we would like to be under construction in the Spring.  I hope that this is a sufficient update but if you would like more  information let me know.

COLUMBIA - SAVIN HILL
By Anthony M.Sammarco

Dorchester's oldest neighborhood is Savin Hill

A neighborhood composed of architectural styles that range from the James Blake House on Columbia road, which is Boston's oldest house, to Victorian mansions, bungalows, three deckers, and numerous other styles. The neighborhood is often described as one of the most interesting. Originally Known as "Rock Hill" for the glacial deposits, and later as "Old Hill" because it was first settled in 1630. The area was renamed "Savin Hill" in 1819 by Joseph Tuttle, proprietor of the Tuttle House, a fashionable seaside hotel on Savin Hill Avenue.

UMASS SCULPTURE PARK
Thank you to all of you who supported the vote to apply to the Coastal Access Mediation and Litigation service in our ongoing dispute about the location of several large modern sculptures around the waterfront at UMASS. Unfortunately, Michelle Vallaincourt of Coastal Zone Management has informed me that only a limited number of applications are accepted and ours was not one of them.
