informative workshop on how to become street smart. In this workshop, you
will learn from an ex-offender how to become more aware of your surroundings
and reduce your risk of becoming a victim. At this workshop you will
receive public safety related information and handouts. The workshop
will be held at the Little House, Tuesday, June 11, 2002 6:30pm. Please

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day ? Spring
2002
June 8th on the UMASS Harbor Campus,
located on Morrissey Boulevard, starting at 9 AM and ending at 2 PM.
This event is for Boston residents
only, bring proof of residency. No commercial waste will be accepted.
Items that will be accepted: Insecticides,
paint, solvents, stains, wood preservatives, varnishes, kerosene, poisons,
tires,
auto fluids, motor oil, car and
household batteries, herbicides, pool supplies and propane tanks.
Please transport these items safely in cardboard boxes. Note: there
is a fifty pound limit and that the City reserves the right to reject any
materials.
TIP: Get there EARLY for the car line-up on the perimiter loop road to the drop-off center can get to be incredibly long and hot later on in the day!!!

Planning Committee Report
Any member of our civic association
is welcome to attend a Planning Committee meeting. To become a member
of the committee, we ask that you attend three meetings in a row to get
an understanding of the issues and then not miss more than three consecutive
meetings in order to maintain continuity. The Planning Committee
meets on the last Monday of the month from September to May at the Little
House at 7:00 PM, unless there is a holiday.
NOTE: Summer Executive Board and
Planning Committee Meetings will be tentatively held on July 8th and August
12th
at the McLaughlin Center of the
Marr Boys and Girls Club, 1135 Dorchester Avenue, 3rd Floor. More
information forthcoming as we approach those dates.
Olmsted Park Walking Tour
Looking for an alternative to the
Dorchester Day Parade? On June 2nd at 1 PM explore a lesser
known section of the "Emerald Necklace." The 90 minute National Park Service
walking tour begins at Daisy Field on Willow Pond Road off the Jamaicaway

4th Annual Neighborhood Coffee Hour with Mayor
Tom Menino
Mayor Menino will be hosting a free
informational coffee hour May 30th, for neighborhood mothers and caregivers
at Ryan Playground at 9 AM. The goal of the coffee hour is to initiate
an open dialog regarding the parks' open space and recreational needs
and how the City can address those needs. Special Offering: The Mayor
will present a lovely spring planter to the first fifty attendees.

Leaders in Progress Program - Summer 2002
A co-ed leadership program for teens
aged 12 ? 14 years old. The program consists of daily discussions,
leadership & group building activities, role playing and new games.
As well as trips: Swimming, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing and
repelling, overnight camping, horseback riding, amusement parks and
arcadesÖ The program starts the week of July 8th with six different
one week sessions. Days and times: Monday to Thursday, 8 AM ? 5 PM.
Cost: $75 per session and space is limited to twelve teens per session.
Registration begins May 29th at 5 PM (first come, first serve) Registration
is restricted to two weeks only (space available) thereís a waiting list
