In honor of Veteran's Day, Ken Hruby will exhibit his work at The Harbor Art Gallery, with an opening reception and gallery talk Tuesday, November 12th at 5:00PM. Hruby, a graduate of West Point and veteran of 21 years as a professional infantry officer, is described by Harold Bell, President of the Cape Ann Historical Museum, as "taking on the uneasy relationship that exists between the military and the society it serves, even the civilians it recruits. His years as a soldier give him the experience of an insider. It is his artist's eye and sensibility, however, which make him eloquent".

Art/Talks
Taylor Davis: Sculptor
Assistant Professor of Art, Mass College of Art
Points of Origin

Taylor's work comes from her experiences growing up in the west. "Cattle cars on trains, cargo crates on flatbed trucks, rural architectural buildings like corn cribs - buildings made to aerate crops - which are half air, half solid; even fences," are the associations she draws on. Her plywood sculptures refer to these forms, but as a result of meticulous construction and attention to materials, they become abstract rather than utilitarian, and balance solidity with the flow of air and light, which she says, reflect her personality by "being present and absent at once".

The second presentation in an informal series of conversations in which members of the UMB faculty, sculptors, curators and art critics are invited to show and discuss their work, describe the context from which it comes, and discuss its relationship to the role of contemporary art in Boston.

Thursday, November 14, 2002; from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Harbor Art Gallery - 1st floor of the McCormack Building
Carry in lunch welcome! Light refreshments will be provided. Sponsored by: Arts on the Point, The UMB Art Faculty and The Harbor Gallery * For more information call: Arts on the Point @ 617-287-5347 Wendy Baring-Gould, Director of Education and Community Outreach.

Ed Geary, Jr. will be taking over the reins as our new CSHCA Web Master this Fall. Ed is up for the challenge and brings to the position a wealth of experience. In June of 2001, he graduated with high honors from Bunker Hill Community College with an Associates in Science Degree in Computer Networking.

Since then he has created the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center web site, dorchesterhouse.org and is the manager of the non-profit's internal web site as well. Ed hopes to work closely with a yet to be formed web committee to determine our membership's web site needs and to implement bold and fresh new ideas.
