CityofBoston.gov Photo Contest
Calling all photographers! The City of Boston is looking for great photos of Boston to feature on their website. They are looking for pictures that show Boston's unique character and beauty. Whether you're a professional photographer, or just like to take pictures, you are invited to submit photos. Open to amateur and professional photographers of all ages. Deadline to submit photographs is December 6, 2006. Check out www.cityofboston.gov/photocontest for complete contest rules, guidelines and more information.

Career and College Guide
The new Boston Public Schools Career and College Guide provides students and families with information about the college application process, financial aid, the transition from high school to college, and numerous resources for assistance and support. Download the guide in Adobe PDF format.

Sponsored by the Suffolk District Attorney Dan Conley’s Office. Meets every other month. Next meeting is Wednesday, December 13th at 6:30 pm at the Community Room at 36 Alexander Street.

Graffiti Busters
For businesses or residence in Boston that needs graffiti taken off, the City Of Boston will do it for free. Log on to the City of Boston Web site at Basic City Services and sign up. The Family Van
This program offers free confidential care such as blood sugar, glaucoma and cholesterol screenings, blood pressure checks, nutrition counseling, pregnancy tests and family planning, confidential HIV testing and counseling, and referrals to other community resources. No appointment, medical insurance or identification is needed. Every week, The Family Van will be at:

Boston Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign
Mayor Menino’s EITC Campaign is entering its sixth year of providing free tax preparation to low and moderate-income taxpayers. We are looking for bilingual individuals who speak English and one of the following languages: Vietnamese, Cape Verdean, Somali or Portuguese. Each Ambassador will educate one of Boston’s major immigrant communities about the EITC and available free tax preparation sites by doing outreach at various organizations and ESL classes and offering site support as interpreters and tax preparers. Ambassadors must be knowledgeable about the immigrant communities in Boston and be committed to helping new workers build assets and secure their financial futures. A stipend is provided for Ambassadors’ efforts from November to April. Ambassadors will work about 10 hours per week. Start date would be 11/13/2006. What is it like to walk a mile in your Shoes?
If you are a girl between the ages of 11-14 living in the Boston area, the Judge Baker Children's Center wants to hear from you! Enter the Camille Cosby "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" essay contest. This is your chance to tell us about you, your life and what it's like to be a girl today. For essay guidelines and entry form, contact Olivenne Skinner at 617-278-4265. The deadline for submission is Friday, December 1, 2006.

City of Boston Trash Collection
There is no delay for trash collection the week of November 6 - 10, 2006. Regular trash and recycling pickup for all districts.

Funds are used towards neighborhood improvement projects and activities.

Little House - Fall Recreation Programs
Saturday Morning Gym Hockey League: Co-Ed instructional/competitive league for boys 8 to 12 and girls 8 to 13. October thru April. Saturdays from 9:00 am to Noon. Cost: $20. Registration starts September 30th.

Teen Recreation Program opens Tuesday October 10th, and runs Tuesdays thru Friday from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. Program offers in house sports leagues, open gym time, gamesroom/lounge, special events, day and evening trips. For more information, call John at 617-282-2180.

Ambassadors of Abolition Exhibit
FREE. This exhibit runs now through November 18th at the Museum Afro-American History. This exhibition illuminates the inspiring story of black and white people working together to end slavery. 46 Joy Street, Boston, located Near Park Street Station. 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday thru Saturday. Art Soup Exhibit
This exhibit runs now through November 30th at The Grossman Gallery, 5th Floor, Healey Library Building, UMass Boston.

Art and the Art of the Self Portrait
This exhibit runs now through November 29th at The Grossman Gallery, 5th Floor, Healey Library Building, UMass Boston. Local Artists include Lee Leonard and Amy Winnig. Also "Postcards of Dorchester" will be on display.

Hamlet at the Strand

C-11 Children's Christmas Party
Friday December 15th: Area C-11 will celebrate Christmas with a Children's Party at the Viet-Aid Center at 42 Charles Street, Dorchester. Last year, C-11 hosted almost 300 children and the success of this event was due to the generosity of the dponsors And fonors. Members Plus Credit Union located at 494 Gallivan Blvd will donate all proceeds from the fees collected from their lobby Coin Counting Machine in November to the C-11 Christmas Party. As this is a time-sensitive donation, we want to urge everyone to collect all that spare change laying around the house and bring it to Members Plus Credit Union. Remember, only proceeds from the month of November will be donated. Further details about the Christmas Party will be forthcoming on a later date.
