Dear Columbia Savin Hill Civic Association members, friends and neighbors,

Over thirty years ago when I accepted a part time position at Little House I had no idea it would be the first of 5 jobs, the last as Director. I am proud to have been part of an organization that provides services and activities designed to improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

During these years my work has been made easier, challenged, enhanced and supported by the CSHCA. The participation of members and neighbors; their concerns, fears, ideas and successes, have all contributed to a wonderful neighborhood and community. There have also been many members who have directed that same kind of energy to supporting Little House.

I am going to break one of my own rules and thank some specific people. If you think I forgot something or someone I probably did (which is why you shouldn’t break rules).

First, I’d like to thank all the individuals who have ever served as an officer or on a committee. I know the time and energy you gave the meetings, the events and the committees took away from your families and interests, but I am grateful you all took the time to serve. Each and every one of you brought an insight or perspective uniquely yours, that touched someone or facilitated a change (although there were a few of you who accomplished this in shorter meeting time than others )

There are a few unsung heroes that have assisted Little House throughout the years however. There is Steve George, who shared curriculums and information with me in the early years and then went on to organize and run the Fran Morton Road Race on Dorchester Day. He and his family took all responsibility, getting trophies, signing up participants, making arrangements with the parade committee and then having a ceremony back at the agency. Hundreds of children ran the race and walked out of the gym with a trophy or prize but more importantly with a sense of accomplishment and success. Thank you Steve.

Some of you may not be aware of it but places like Little House have a tight budget, one of the most consistent and thoughtful supporters has been Joe Chaisson. Anytime he came across furniture, toys, books, equipment that was no longer being used he called us. He never forgot the children in the program and never wasted anything. His persistence in his support of the issues is matched by his support for the children we serve, thank you Joe.

The food pantry has benefited from many of you, giving both financial and food gifts. I’d like to thank Diana Wilson and John Anderson for always keeping the need in the forefront whether by putting reminders or placing the basket in the gym. I am also grateful for their commitment to having childcare available for the parents at the meeting.

There are so many individuals and families that have contributed to civic and the Little House, too many to mention, but I want to thank those who have gone before for setting the bar so high. Keep up the good work.

Thank You,
Anne Nee
