Announcements

  1. Please remember to renew your membership for 2019. Dues are $10 per individual and $5 for those who are seniors. Merchant memberships are $25. Dues can be paid at the membership meeting or via US mail. The form and address to mail can be found on our webpage: CSHCA membership form
  2. Free… yes FREE! The City of Boston is offering tax preparation services for 2019. The free service is limited to individual making $55,000.00 or less. Details and location on the service can be found at: FREE Tax Services information
  3. The MBTA will visit with a series of community meetings about transportation. The first is a Better Bus Route initiative. The MBTA is proposing changes to 47 bus routes throughout the city in an effort to improve efficiency and connectivity. The nearest open house (not a meeting) to Savin Hill will be inside Ashmont Station from 4:30 – 6:30pm and provide feedback. For details, visit the Better Bus Route Project site.
  4. The MBTA is also in the midst of rolling out a new fare payment system. The project is called AFC 2.0 (Automated Fare Collection).  The project goal is to make paying for transit easier with different options, such as your smartphone or a contact-less credit card. There is also a proposal on the table for a fare increase effective for July. The next meeting closest to Savin Hill will be from 6:00 – 8:00pm on February 25th in South Boston at the Tynan School (650 East 4th street).   5. The Dorchester Historical Society is asking for the membership support to submit a letter for restoration efforts of their properties here in Dorchester. The membership will vote to support a letter to both Mass Historical Commission and Preservation Massachusetts.
  6. Recreational Marijuana: The CSHCA executive board participated in a conversation with other Dorchester civic groups along with the Cannabis Control Commission and the City’s emerging business head to understand this growing industry and hosting agreements these organization execute with the community.   7. Members will be asked to move forward with completing a Love your Block grant from the City. CSHCA will seek to use the funds to beautify Ryan Playground and brand the association to encourage an increase to membership. Learn more here on Love your Block
  8. Chili Cookoff – Dot Day Parade. Yes, it might be winter but the Chili Cookoff is set for March 24th at the IBEW from 4:00 – 7:00pm. The membership will vote to pay the $50 fee to enter and make a recommendation for a local restaurant to make the chili. Also if you are interested in joining the Dot Day Parade Committee… please note the second Tuesday of each month starting in February at the Ramada Inn on Morrissey Blvd at 7:00pm.

Speakers

  1. Mark McGonagle and members from the BPDA will provide an update on the Glovers Corner initiative as to where they are in the process and what has been accomplished to date the the remaining timeline. The next community meeting is scheduled for February 27th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm with a TBD location. For more information, see Glover Corner Updates and Next Mtg details
  2. The executive board will provide an update on community mitigation and benefits initiative around the large developments occurring in the neighborhood, and our plan to contribute to how these funds should be spent in the neighborhood. The next meeting to provide feedback is Thursday, February 21st at 6:30pm at Savin Hill Apts (130 Auckland Street)
  3. Catherine O’Neill will provide an update on the Project Notification Change filed with the BPDA. An Impact Advisory Group “IAG” meeting will be held on February 6th followed by a public community meeting on February 11th. Both meetings will be at Work Inc. 25 Beach Street (across from the IBEW on Freeport Street) from 6:30 – 8:00pm.   4. A New Restaurant in Savin Hill. Ken and Driscoll may present an update on the available restaurant space currently under construction.
