Announcements

1) Please remember to renew your membership for 2019. Dues are $10.00 per individual and $5.00 for those who are seniors. Merchant memberships are $25. Fees can be paid at the membership meeting or via US postal mail. The form and address to mail can be found on our website: CSHCA membership form

2) Dorchester Day Parade Fundraisers – 2 Big Activities this month. The first is the Character Breakfast scheduled for this Saturday March 9th at the Pope John Paul Parish 790 Columbia Road. Bring the kids starting at 9:00am until 1130am. All will enjoy breakfast while kids can have pictures taken with movie and TV characters (like Nemo, Darth Vader, etc). Cost is $20 per person with kids under 2 free.

The 2nd event is the Annual Chili Cookoff scheduled for Sunday March 24th from 4:00 – 7:00pm at the IBEW on Freeport Street. Savin Hill will once again be represented and Savin Bar and Kitchen has generously donated the Chili for us this year. The event is $20/person or $30 for a family (up to 4 people). 3) Dot Block: The Dot Block Notice of Project Change will be before the Boston Civic Design Commission on Tuesday evening (March 5th) from 5:40 PM – 6:00 PM in the BPDA Board Room on the 9th floor of City Hall for a vote of recommendation.

As a reminder, a Public Meeting Open House will then be held next Wednesday evening, March 6th beginning at 5:00 PM (and running until 8:00 PM) at WORK, Inc.: Dot Block meeting details

4) Uphams Corner Arts & Innovation District Community> Meeting: March 7th starting at 5:30pm at the Kroc Center (650 Dudley Street). Come get an update on plans for the Strand, Branch library along with new housing and commercial space ideas. 5) Dorchester Historical Society – Evacuation Day event: How Boston was liberated from the British on March 17, 1776. Event is Sunday March 10th at 2:00pm up at the DHS property (195 Boston Street). DHS Event on American Revolution

6) Do we need a new Traffic Enforcement Department?? Come to a City sponsored meeting to discuss the possibility on March 12th at 3:00pm. Meeting will discuss the potential for a new department and use of cameras on out City streets. Ianella Chamber at City Hall – 5th Floor. Public will be allowed to testify. 7) UMASS / Bayside development: In case you didn’t hear the developer for the Bayside property has been chosen. Accordia Partners has been selected to move forward with a mixed use development at the old Bayside property.  Details on next steps which will include a community process will be forthcoming. 8) Think Summer and Scholarships – The City of Boston has opened the application for summer youth jobs for the coming summer season (ages 15-18 years old). Applications need to be submitted by 4/12. Details can be found thru the following link: City Summer Jobs for Youth

Speakers

1) Representative Dan Hunt will address the memberships and discuss legislation and his goals for 2019.  He will also address the recent 5G upgrades across the district.

2) The executive board will provide an update on community mitigation and benefits initiative around the large developments occurring in the neighborhood and our plan to contribute to how these funds should be spent in the neighborhood. A 3rd meeting is in the works…

3) Representatives from Eversource (Nicole Bowden) will be on hand on the next steps around their submission of work for a new transmission line thru Savin Hill.

4) Representatives from Boston Cyclist Union (Eliza Parad) will address members on bike safety and bike lane proposals in the neighborhood with particular focus on Columbia Road to Mass Ave corridor. You can learn more about there objectives and events at: https://bostoncyclistsunion.org/.
