Walgreens Update

  • There’s been a change of management. The person the chairs were working with has been transferred.
  • Walgreens has been responsive to weekly emails.
  • There has been a slow response to property management and maintenance.
    • The property appears somewhat cleaner.
    • Broken parts of the fence have been removed, but not replaced.
  • A shared news article revealed that the property has been sold.
    • The community has not been notified as to any future plans for the site.
    • There are many bare shelves in the store although the store appears to be busy.
    • The question we have: Is Walgreens staying? Councilor Baker’s office might have more information.

Updates on the Homeless Encampment near the Gas Tanks

  • A red tent was recently spotted near the I-93 off ramp on the gas tank side. Jennifer will scout out the area and take pictures of the situation.
  • Needles entangled in seaweed have been found washed up on Malibu beach.
    • Heidi submitted a report to 311 and DCR to alert them to this problem.
    • If you see any needles, alert 311. If you have the phone app to take and send a picture, that’s even better.
    • Dianne will see if there is a dedicated DCR number to report issues at the beach.
    • Councilor Baker’s office is aware of the problem and is looking into getting a sharps box at the beach.
    • The chairs will contact Rep. Dan Hunt to follow up on this problem.

Updates from Ross Cochran, City Liaison

  • Ross contacted John Ulrich, Commissioner of ISD, about the rat infestation along Dorchester Ave and its side streets.
    • John Ulrich sent him materials about preventative measures.
    • Ross intends to
      • Schedule a walk-through with John Ulrich.
      • Develop a comprehensive plan with ISD to deal with the problem.
      • Invite John to a CSHCA meeting – either a Safety or General meeting – to address this issue.
    • There are reports of rat holes at the corner of Savin Hill Ave and Auckland Street.
    • We should ask residents to message the chairs to identify where the rat infestations are located.
  • An abandoned house on Romsey Street is being put on the problem property list.
  • Ross will also ask John Ulrich to check out the “mini-Mass-and-Cass” near the gas tanks.

Updates on the Work at Savin Hill Bridge

  • The work is taking longer than expected.
  • There will be a temporary fix for now with the plan to eventually replace the bridge.
  • Safety issues raised at the general meeting revealed
    • A crosswalk cannot be installed due to the obstruction by the clock and planters.
    • The south side was closed to foot traffic as that is the worse side currently being worked on.
    • The MBTA rep’s answers implied her hands were tied in terms of making safety improvements.

Congestion at Savin Hill Ave. and Sydney Street Intersection

  • There continues to be a lot of congestion at that intersection.
    • The C-11 police enforced the parking time limits for a while, but haven’t been doing so more recently.
    • Ross will reach out to C-11 to ask them to patrol more often.
  • Parking is tight due to the loss of parking on the bridge. People are double parking.
  • Councilor Baker’s office is working on having traffic calming measures installed such as bump-outs.
  • McKenna’s is reducing its delivery order times to 8 AM – 2 PM.

Fox Point Road Updates

  • There has been no progress on replacing the collapsed guardrail at the end of Fox Point Road along Morrissey Boulevard.
  • The chairs will continue to follow up with Dan Hunt to try to get this fixed.
